Frequently asked questions... and their answersAll of your questions are covered in the competiton terms but here are some common question and answers: Q. What’s the catch?A. There isn’t one. The winner gets a fabulous property in the sun and we get the asking price for our home. If the competition doesn’t raise sufficient funds to “sell” the house, the prize will still be allocated and the winner gets the cash sum (less the competition running costs). Q.Is it legal?A. In constructing this competition and the terms and conditions surrounding it, we have taken legal advice from acknowledged gaming/gambling law experts. In their professional opinion, this competition is lawful. See also this page on our legal advisors web site re "win a house prize competitons". Q. How do I enter?A. Click on the competition entry button and then:
Q. Do you have a mortgage on the property?A. No we don't... we own the property free of any debt or outstanding mortgage. Q. Can I enter more than once?A. You can enter multiple times but to comply with money laundering guidelines we have set an upper limit of 200 entries per household. If you wish to enter more than this number of times, please email us. Q. What are my chances of winning?A. We are running a competition... not a prize draw, so we can't tell you that you have a "one in X" chance of winning. The winner is the person that correctly answers the competiton questions. In the event of a tie, there will be one or more tie-breaker questions until we arrive at one single outright winner. See terms and conditions for exact detail. Q. Can I enter if I do not live in the UK?A. Yes. Q. Can I pay in a currency other than pounds sterling?A. Simply pay with your credit/debit card and the payment handler will charge you, in your own currency, the equivalent of the sterling entry fee. How many entry tickets are going to be sold?We will close the competition when there are 20,000 entries. This will raise sufficient funds to pay for the property, all the legal costs and property taxes, etc. so you won’t have to. It will also cover the cost of marketing and running the competition and donations to two children's charities. We’ll also pay for two adult, return air fares (based upon London Gatwick to Málaga). Q. What will the winner have to pay to transfer the property?A. Nothing. The winner just pays for the competition entry. We will pay the stamp duty, VAT, notary fees and all other taxes related to the property transfer as well as the solicitor’s conveyancing costs. Any utility bills, etc. relating to the house will be settled before we leave. We’ll even pay for the return air fare* so that the winner can come and sign the transfer deeds, etc. (*Based upon two adults from London Gatwick to Málaga - tourist class or equivalent- up to a maximum of £800). Q. What if the entry fees collected don’t hit the target?A. If we don’t hit target by the closing date, the fund of entry fees collected will go to the winner (less the set up and running costs of the competition). Q. Where are the entry fees held?A. In an account held by the payment processer, who will hold the funds until the competition closes and the winner is announced. We have no access to the funds throughout the competition. |
